Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims First Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
Success also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.
Moutet rescued four early chances in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
