The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This
As any major honors show draws close, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
- Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Just some logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
